dps analysis
The image in this DPS has taken up 50% of the copy whereas the headline has taken 65% of the page. The colour of the text matches the copy as the background is grey and the colour of some of the text is white, the rest of the text have some pink and that stands out from the rest of the headline.
Looking at the copies there are not any useless empty spaces, they’re all filled up with either editorial or image. The way the editorial is laid out is in the most common way dps are always laid out. For example there are three columns of editorial. Within those columns there also different fonts, for example there is an all black text and there is an all black text but highlighted with white.
The copy has a border around the copy and the colour of the border matches the font of the editorial and also the shirt of the model.
Within the headline there is also a quote embeded which is related to the rest of the editorial.
The colour code of the dps insinuates that the genre of this magazine is rock. The reason why is because the colour grey and dark grey are quite metalic and also the model has been dressed to show off the tattoos on his arm which is quite a norm for a ‘rock star’.
With this dps, the image is quite heavy but also at the same time, not so much. For example the image is 50% of the copy however the background of the image carries on to the other side of the copy.
The headline of this dps is large in terms of font size and the colour of the headline is the same as the editorial.
At the start of the editorial, there is a mini subheading and I know that it is a subheading as it is of a different font size and also has one line that is of a different colour.
There is only two columns in this copy. However both columns seem to contain a heavy amount of information.
